Walking


I have mentioned in previous posts that I often consult an online pedometer so I can map out a desired route in advance. I then know the length of the walk and approximately how many calories I can burn.
I try to walk somewhat briskly, as if I am hurrying to make an appointment. People with some authority suggest walking with a sense of deliberation. I find this helpful, a kind of method acting for exercise. When I'm walking downtown, for example, I look ahead and mutter to myself, "I have just got to get to the Woolworth Building!"
My goal is a brisk 2 mile walk every day, except for Sundays, but I walk at least another mile or so each day running errands and walking my dogs.
I find that exercise gives me more energy which in turn motivates me to engage in more calorie-burning efforts. Walking is also a good way of just getting out of the house (or apartment).
