I'm not 100% sure about this location. Other have written me about alternative theories and locations, including yours, and I was considering this possibility just today. Hopper sketched and used his imagination for the painting. We may never see a picture of his diner at a corner on Teri Tyneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18304387840586756126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6416851791929242085.post-90553800915029870402010-05-14T18:05:38.203-04:002010-05-14T18:05:38.203-04:00I was told the painting location was across the st...I was told the painting location was across the street, the florist that is in your photo. and still looks like the painting if you remove the awnings. but......i was only told this once. big grain of salt.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6416851791929242085.post-83220022846308143692009-08-19T16:00:16.885-04:002009-08-19T16:00:16.885-04:00Hi Phil,

As an artist, he was likely to alter the dimensions for his artistic purposes. So, I think you could make a wonderful speculative model just based on the painting.Teri Tyneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18304387840586756126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6416851791929242085.post-87673745806133681922009-08-19T15:41:50.957-04:002009-08-19T15:41:50.957-04:00Nice Photoshop job. Hollywood) and was thinking of the diner in Nighthawks as my next project./ Do you happen to have any information on dimensions, etc.? Would love to have the city enlarge 'Nighthawks' and put it on a display board on that corner... how cool would that be for everyone to see.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6416851791929242085.post-88169509117341685682009-02-07T17:57:00.000-05:002009-02-07T17:57:00.000-05:00Thanks, Vidiot. It was startling to see the location, even empty, and then to see how well the diner fit the space when I was blending the two images.Teri Tyneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18304387840586756126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6416851791929242085.post-11081404838812797702009-02-07T14:16:00.000-05:002009-02-07T14:16:00.000-05:00Fascinating, and neat that you scoped out the loca...Fascinating, and neat that you scoped out the location!Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05321984368981938253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6416851791929242085.post-64586871788755096032009-02-05T15:10:00.000-05:002009-02-05T15:10:00.000-05:00I didn't get to see the Hopper exhibition last yea...I didn't get to see the Hopper exhibition last year, although I wanted to travel to one of those cities to see it. I did see the large exhibition organized by the Whitney in 1980, and I remember it so well it feels like it was yesterday. Toward the end of these series of posts, I'll visit Hopper's paintings that are on exhibit in the local New York museums.Teri Tyneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18304387840586756126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6416851791929242085.post-10540896814296832072009-02-05T14:59:00.000-05:002009-02-05T14:59:00.000-05:00And being able to go see this painting whenever I ...And being able to go see this painting whenever I like is one of my consolations for living in Chicago and not in amazing New York. Did you get to see the touring exhibition of Hopper's work last year? It also appeared in Boston and DC. Incredible. On one wall was a Hopper quote that has stayed with me: "What I wanted to do was paint sunlight on the side of a house."Terry at Blue Kitchenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13504693954312787975noreply@blogger.com
