Photographer Andy Freeberg opens the season at Danziger Projects with a show titled Sentry. The exhibit consists of his architectural photographs of the reception areas of prominent Chelsea galleries. Many of these images are studies in white, reflecting the beyond-minimalist ambiance of contemporary art galleries. In several photographs you'll notice the top of the head of a gallery worker or receptionist. These people are under strict orders to never acknowledge any visitor or make eye contact.
Andy is my hero for making beautiful images of these places, and James Danziger is a rock star unto me now for exhibiting the work in his Chelsea gallery (521 West 26th). The exhibit opens today and continues through October 13.
